Minnesota game‏

Hi WA Huskers,

After a week off following “The Comeback” against Ohio State, our beloved Huskers (#13 in the year’s first BCS rankings) hit the road to take on the struggling Minnesota Golden Gophers this Saturday Oct 22 at 12:30pm Pacific on ABC. Let’s hope for a solid tune-up before the Big 10 schedule gets particularly rugged.

As always, we invite you to watch the game with your Big Red friends at our fantastic watch sites – and please bring a few extra dollars this week not only for our halftime raffles, but also to help stuff our donation boxes for the “Husker Fans Salute the Troops” fundraiser! Details are at the bottom of this e-mail – WA Huskers are proud to be one of two alumni chapters nationwide (Capital of Texas Nebraskans being the other) to be listed as official sponsors on the http://www.huskersalute.org/ website.

Our watch sites….

·         The Lucky 7 in Kirkland
This is our long-standing “Husker Headquarters” flagship watch site, located northeast of Seattle.
As with every week at the Lucky 7, we’ll have a great time and a terrific halftime raffle. Please get there early, and try to keep the family dining area available for families with children.
NOTE: This week’s marquee raffle prize is an autographed Tom Osborne jersey! Also, please try your hand (and brain) at our newest halftime contest at L7 – Nebraska Trivia!

O’Blarneys Pub in Olympia
The place to be for ravenous Husker fans in the South Sound!  Come early and be sure to get a good seat, and support the halftime raffle.

The Red Door in the Seattle / Fremont District
Our newest location – and closest to downtown Seattle! Wear red, buy tickets for the halftime raffle, and come hang out with us at this fun spot, with growing crowds!
NOTE: There will be a live, radio remote Pre-Game Show at The Red Door this Saturday from 11am-noon on KKNW/1150AM. Joining the KKNW sports crew will be WA Huskers’ own Steve "The Flash" Yoder for his expert (admittedly biased) commentary on the Huskers vs. Gophers game.

RADIO BROADCASTS
Can’t make it to a watch site? The game can also be heard via our partner station KKNW/1150AM (Bellevue) at 1150AM, on 98.9 HD Channel 3, or online at 1150KKNW.com. The Husker Sports Radio Network pre-game show begins 30min before kickoff (and this week, don’t forget WA Huskers’ own local pre-pre-game show from 11am-noon).
NOTE – If you like what you hear on the radio broadcasts, please consider donating to our radio fund or advertising your business on our broadcasts.)

CHAPTER T-SHIRTS
We’re happy to announce that our new chapter t-shirts are in, and on-sale at our watch parties! Short sleeve shirts are $20, long sleeve are $25.

REX & JACK
Many of you have likely seen the recent tear-jerking stories about Husker running back Rex Burkhead and his special bond with Jack Hoffman, a 6-year-old Nebraskan battling a brain tumor. If you haven’t seen the latest, Jack’s family reports that they are “smiling in Boston” after surgery last week. If you’d like to donate to the family or to simply leave a note of encouragement, here’s Jack’s CaringBridge website.

Husker Fans Salute the Troops (huskersalute.org).

Our mission is to salute Nebraska Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guard: active duty, national guard, reserve, retired and veterans, to say “Thank you for your service to our Nation” so they know the Husker Nation will never forget their sacrifice and dedication.

This weekend hosts troops and their families from all services, of all ranks, to come together and cheer on their team as they beat Minnesota on 22 October.  This weekend is more than just a watch party, though.  It is a chance for these servicemen and women to be treated like the heroes they are with an all access, private tour of Memorial Stadium and a brunch in their honor at the Cornhusker Hotel.

This year we again invite Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines – active, reserve, guard, retired and veterans and will again host 25 Husker fans who are currently with the Fort Riley Wounded Warrior program.
The "Salute" organization will provide dinner Saturday, brunch on Sunday, and a hotel room for Saturday night.
Donations  -  We cannot do this without the support of Husker fans everywhere.  The “Salute” weekend provides military members a unique opportunity to spend a dream weekend around something they love.   This is the 4th year that this event will be held.   It is sponsored by the Northeast Kansans for Nebraska.

The Washington Cornhuskers are proud to be a 2011 Alumni Chapter donor.

Each watch site for the Minnesota game will have a way to give to this event.   Please consider adding a donation when you buy your raffle tickets.   Thank you in advance for saluting our military members who just happen to be true Huskers.
